Student Recognition
Joyner MicroSociety Magnet School strives to recognize students who excel socially, emotionally and academically. Below are some of the way that we recognize students.
Positive "PAW"
Positive PAW awards are held quarterly and celebrate students to exemplify the traits of a Joyner Jaguar. Students are selected and families are invited to attend an assembly where students are recognized in front of their peers.
Award Assembly
Joyner celebrates the great work of our students by holding a yearly award assembly. The following students are recognized:
Perfect Attendance
Students who attend school regularly learn more and are more successful in school than students who don't. Parents who make school attendance a priority also are helping their children learn to accept responsibility. That is an important lesson for a successful life.
Presidential Award for Educational Excellence
Honoring student achievement and hard work is the purpose of the President's Education Awards Program. Since 1983, the program has provided individual recognition from the President and the U.S. Secretary of Education to those students whose outstanding efforts have enabled them to meet challenging standards of excellence. Fifth graders, who meet the criteria, are recognized with these awards at the end of the year. To be eligible for this award, students must meet high academic standards. They must display high motivation, initiative, integrity, intellectual depth, leadership qualities and/or exceptional judgment.
Presidential Award for Educational Achievement
This award is given at the principal's discretion based on the criteria developed at the school. The criteria should reflects the purpose of the award and is applied fairly to all students. Students who showed tremendous growth but did not meet all the criteria for the President's Award for Educational Excellence and demonstrated unusual commitment to learning in academics despite various obstacles are eligible for the Presidential Award for Educational Achievement.
Presidential Physical Fitness Awards
Fifth grade students who pass all six areas of California's physical "fitness-gram" are awarded the Presidential Physical Fitness Award. Every year 5th grade students though out the state are given California's comprehensive, health-related physical fitness battery in six areas.
